DieTrac Technical Institute

"A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN THE SKILLED TRADES"

DieTrac Technical Institute, Lewisporte, NL is now owned by the Lewisporte Development Corporation.  It is under new management and most importantly it will be operated as a Non-Profit College.  A Board of Governors will oversee the operation.

This is a unique designation and various government departments, including the Dept. Municipal Affairs, the former Dept. of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, the Dept. of Education and former Dept. of Business were consulted and offered their support for this initiative.  The decision also had to be cleared by the Premier's office.  This is exciting news for the Town of Lewisporte and surrounding area, an area that has undergone significant economic loss over the pass two decades.  Since all profit realized by the new College will go back into the business to improve all aspects of its operation it is hoped that the College will generate employment in the area.

Along with this new beginning the Marine Institute (MI), Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, has a presence on the campus with the establishment of the very first Regional Fisheries and Marine Centre.  This is the first centre of its kind in the province.  All parties involved in this new venture are hoping the presence of a prestigious organization like the Marine Institute will assist in moving the new DieTrac organization forward.  A number of programs are currently being looked at by the Marine Institute for this Campus.
