DIETRAC Technical Institute offers a 36-week Entry Level training program and a 28-week Advanced Level training program in Industrial Mechanic (Millwright).

This program is designed to assist individuals in developing sufficient basic skills and knowledge to enter the labour force as apprentice Industrial Mechanics (Millwright) Both entry and advanced level programs are accredited by the provincial apprenticeship board.


Trade theory includes the study of fundamental principles of general shop practice, precision measurement, basic drawing and sketching, machine tools, fundamentals of hydraulics and pneumatics, vibration analysis, laser alignment, lathes, pump installation, seals and bearings, drill presses, valves, rigging, oxyfuel cutting and welding, and shielded metal arc welding, first aid, WHMIS and safety instruction.


Trade shop and related shop work with emphasis on safe and proper work habits to develop the basic skills necessary to apply the principles outlined below.

Students learn to maintain, diagnose, repair and adjust equipment, tooling and lifting devices.  Training is provided in maintaining industrial equipment to the degree required for safe and efficient operation, using procedures outlined in manufacturers' manuals and other instructional media.
